Shade Tree Farm is a subsidiary of West Winds Nursery which was established in 1982. The nursery is owned and operated by Philip A. Klene who holds a degree in Ornamental Horticulture. The business is family run and many family members share the passion for growing, sharing and spreading the beauty of the plant world.

The firm's clientele ranges from residential to professional; including landscape architects, designers, contractors, home builders, churches and parks. Services clients receive range from simply purchasing trees to designing and implementing a project. Hardscape services are also offered with a special emphasis on natural flagstone walkways and patios, fieldstone boulder groupings and drystack stone walls.

The nursery has a wide range of specimen quality trees which are nurtured on farmland in the Northern Virginia Piedmont region. In addition to these resources, decades of relationships with other nurseries in the eastern United States gives Shade Tree access to thousands of acres of nursery stock.

Specializing in large tree installations, Shade Tree operates a fleet of specially designed trucks and construction equipment used to economically transplant large, mature trees. This equipment allows for the safe and efficient moving of deciduous trees and evergreens ranging in sizes from 3" to 10" in diameter and from 6 feet to over 30 feet in height.
